On Newsstands Now: Fairfield County Project Featured in the Color Issue of athome Magazine

Picture

May 1, 2018 -- One of our projects, Carriage House Re-imagined, in Fairfield County, is included in the current issue of athome magazine. The Color Issue feature, "Designed to Scale," is an interview with interior designer Karen Bow, of Karen Bow Interiors in Darien.

The architects were the stars of this project; they did such an amazing job.  I wanted to capture the essence of what they created, but give it a more modern flair.  We were just the sprinkles on a really, really great cake.  --  Karen Bow, Karen Bow Interiors

Huestis Tucker "designed an authentic Shingle-style home with broad overhangs and large front porch that fit right into the neighborhood context, and made it energy efficient, too. "

“I’m proud that we were able to create a house that, despite being quite large and very traditional-looking, actually is really on the cutting edge of energy efficiency—and is also very livable,” says Bob Tucker.

One of several spec homes that architect Bob Tucker and builder/developer Peter Thalheim of Harbor Builders have created together in Old Greenwich over the years, this home looks great and functions beautifully. Tucker designed an authentic Shingle-style home with broad overhangs and large front porch that fit right into the neighborhood context and made it energy efficient, too. A well-connected kitchen is open to the family room, and accessible from the dining room via a a butler's pantry. In the basement, full-size windows bring light into the space, which includes a playroom and home theater. To make it energy efficient, solar panels for hot water were tucked into the back of the home, and a cistern collects rainwater. It’s so efficient, in fact, that the homeowners’ electric bills are actually less than those at their New York apartment.”
