This house was designed for a developer as a custom spec house to evoke the homes that were built at the turn of the past century in many East Coast beach towns. Based on shingle style cottages, this house is designed around today's relaxed family lifestyle, yet still has a degree of formality and detail not found in most spec houses today. Outside traditional cedar shingles and painted trim are used to define the massing and add interest to the building façade, while inside an open kitchen/family room for the modern family connects to a dining room and Library defined by large cased openings and pocket doors. Upstairs are a big stair hall connecting all the family bedrooms, and a walk-up third floor with views of Long Island Sound is nestled in under the broad roofline. |
