Our involvement in this project was almost entirely limited to interior renovations, except for designing the pool house and detailing some of the balconies. The house was fully gutted and the exterior was nearly finished when we were asked to design the interiors. Throughout the house, we tried to maintain the same atmosphere created on the exterior. Plaster detailing on the ceilings, heavy woodwork, hewn beams and custom light fixtures were all integrated into the design. The sunken Living Room has a high ceiling and even with the hewn beams it is a light and airy place to sit and enjoy the fire or the view of Long Island Sound. The billiard room has its own air of history and tradition with its bay window seats set into the dark paneled walls and its antique tile floor, yet it is still comfortable for casual use. Upstairs, each of the bedrooms was given its own design approach without straying from the main theme. The Master Suite has his and her baths, each with custom designed and fabricated woodwork and cabinetry. Hers is light and feminine, his is reminiscent of a turn of the century gentleman's club. |
